Bible Study: Secrets To Being Lifted Up – Part 1
TOPIC: SECRETS TO BEING LIFTED UP
BIBLE TEXTS: Isaiah 40:31; Psalms 40:1-4; 121:1-8; Matthew 6:33; 22:29.
KEY VERSE: Wherefore the Lord God of Israel saith, I said indeed that thy house, and the house of thy father, should walk before me for ever: but now the Lord saith, Be it far from me; for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed. 1 Samuel 2:30
A young intelligent graduate passed the recruitment test for employment as a teacher into a Christian private secondary school with distinction and needed no godfather to beg for employment on his behalf. During the induction exercise, he was told that as a teacher in the school, he has to attend staff morning devotion and effectively participate in the praise and worship session, exhortation and prayers everyday before classes begin.
The young man said his religion does not permit clapping of hands, and neither do they sing praises except hymns. Hence, he will not compromise. For this singular reason, he REJECTED THE JUICY OFFER and walked away with his defective godly inclination.

The Principal of the school also REFUSED TO COMPROMISE by employing a good teacher at the expense of his religious standards, which certainly impede on the morals of the children. Hence, the two parted ways.

a) What is commitment to a cause in this context? (Hint: dedication to a belief)
b) To what extent do you love God when it comes to doctrinal issues?
c) If you were this young man that needed the job ” BADLY,” what would you have done? Be sincere.
d) Was the Principal too protective of his religion than the right of the children to get an excellent Mathematics teacher?
e) In your real self, what decision would you have taken as the Principal of the school seeing that you needed that teacher desperately?
f) Have you given up anything for the sake of Christ? If yes, mention it.
g) What other lessons and virtues can you decode from this story?
God is interested in your love and personal commitment to serve as a basis for your being lifted up. Stubbornness to obey, self will, and refusal to seek Him first will surely hinder you from being lifted up. As ignorant of the truth about worship as this young man was, he preferred to give benefit of doubts to what he has been taught whether it was wrong or right.
